I'm the author of the fantasy book series Cassidy Strike. I write young adult fiction in English from my home in Amsterdam.
In 2026, I left my job as a sustainability lawyer to become a full-time writer—a perfectly sensible decision, according to the mythical creatures now occupying most of my working day.
Three things inspire me: connecting with children and adults through original, smart, and fun fiction; the Netherlands, especially Amsterdam; and my international background. I'm Dutch-Turkish and have lived in the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Portugal, Fiji, and Japan, which has given me plenty of material and a complicated answer to the question, "Where are you from?"
When I'm not writing, I'm probably out for a run in Vondelpark with my family or disappearing into a story about ancient civilizations—which is usually where the trouble begins.

I'm actively seeking partners to collaborate with for the publication, illustration, and dissemination of Cassidy Strike.
I also teach, co-organize, and speak at events.

I love learning! I have four law degrees from four different countries, including a PhD, and a creative writing certificate from the University of Oxford.
My legal background influenced the worldbuilding in Cassidy Strike, in particular, the Shaper Weald (one of the superhero types in the series). Cassidy herself is the most powerful Shaper: she's the Amicus Curator and she fights injustice with her magical sword.
My experiences studying and working at universities are also central to my books. In Cassidy Strike, five teens find themselves enrolled at Solresol University, which is a secret institution on the magical island of Tidelis.
My previous publications include a book on climate change and migration (available here), and a pocketbook on sustainable business (available here). I've also published book chapters, research articles, special issues, and blog posts.
I've taught online and in-person courses at universities and NGOs for diverse audiences, ranging from undergraduate and master’s students to entrepreneurs.
I have a strong track record of securing and successfully managing grants and other types of funding. Examples include the Postdoc.Mobility Grant (CHF 103k), PhD Research Grant (CHF 188k), and Open Access Publishing Grant (CHF 10k) from the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Promotion of Young Researchers Fund (CHF 5k) from the University of Bern.
My awards include the 2020 International Law Association Young Scholars' Award, the 2013 UofT Fellowship (CAD 12k), and the 2012 LSE Microfiction Prize.
