I'm a published legal scholar turned full-time fiction writer, currently writing Cassidy Rawl, a young adult fantasy book series about a fearless fourteen-year-old who fights injustice with a magical sword.
My writing explores power, war, belonging, and the ways ancient stories illuminate contemporary problems. My background in sustainability law and politics informs these themes.
I'm Dutch-Turkish and have lived in the UK, Canada, Switzerland, Portugal, Fiji, and Japan. That international experience—and Amsterdam, where I now live—shapes the worlds I create and my fascination with stories that cross cultures, histories, and borders.
When I'm not writing, I'm probably running in Vondelpark with my family or disappearing down a rabbit hole about ancient myths, which is usually where the trouble begins.

I wrote my first fiction novella at fifteen. Here are a few things from the life I built in between, and how they've found their way into my books:
A lifelong love of storytelling. I hold a Creative Writing Certificate from the University of Oxford and won the 2012 LSE Microfiction Prize.
Published. I've published books on climate change (available here) and sustainable business (available here), as well as academic articles, book chapters, blog posts, and other peer-reviewed publications. I have experience working with publishers, editors, and cover designers.
A proven track record of successfully securing and managing external funding. Including the PhD (CHF 188,000), Postdoctoral (CHF 105,000), and Gender Equality (CHF 1,000) grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation; the Promotion of Young Scholars Fund (CHF 5,000) from the University of Bern; and the UofT Fellowship (CAD 12,500) from the University of Toronto.
From law to fantasy. I studied law in the UK, Canada, Turkiye, and Switzerland, culminating in a PhD in international law. My legal background shapes the worldbuilding of Cassidy Rawl, particularly its questions of justice, power, and war.
Years inside universities. After years spent studying, teaching, and conducting research at universities, I created one of my own: Solresol University, a secret institution on the magical island of Tidelis where five teenagers find themselves unexpectedly enrolled.
An international life. My experiences living in multiple countries inform the international characters, social norms, and questions of identity and belonging in my fiction.
